Coromandel Town is set to get a new support service for older people with the opening on Friday March 27 of the Enliven Day Service.
Located at Elim Church, 3 Karamu Lane, the Day Service was previously in Colville, more than half-an-hour’s drive from Coromandel Town.
The service brings together older people into a community setting where they can connect with like-minded people of their age group, take part in activities, socialise and have fun.
Enliven General Manager Wendy Hoskin says relocating the Day Service from Colville to Coromandel Town was a no brainer.
“Coromandel Town is a much larger town and allows us to offer our services to a wider range of people. It will also mean less travel for clients who previously travelled from Coromandel Town to Colville to attend the Day Service.
“We also have a great relationship with the Elim Church who provide a church venue for our Thames Day Service. When they opened their Coromandel Town church, it proved to be a great opportunity for us to continue our relationship.”
Wendy says Enliven provides Day Services from four locations throughout the Coromandel Peninsular – Thames, Whitianga, Whangamata and now Coromandel Town.
“Our Day Services are a key part of their communities and provide a wonderful service for older people, especially those who live alone and are living with age related conditions.”
As well as providing lunch and morning tea, Day Service activities include exercises, cognitive stimulation, socialising, table-top games, crafts, quizzes, singing, music and celebrating events, such as St Patrick’s Day and Easter.
“Enliven Day Services are a lot of fun and really help with overall health and wellbeing of older people,” says Wendy.
“They also provide an opportunity for carers to take some time out and catch-up on day-to-day tasks while there loved one is having fun at the Day Service.”
The Coromandel Town Enliven Day Service is opened every Friday 9.00am – 3.00pm from March 27 and is free through a referral from the needs assessment service.
