Getting the right support quickly, when you need it, can make a world of difference if you are a support worker concerned about a client.
Recognising this, Enliven, a leading provider of in-home and community services for older people and people with disabilities, has reinforced the support available for its support worker teams by introducing a rapid-response support team that is just a phone call away.
Jana (Farjana) Rahman knows this firsthand, having been an Enliven Support Worker before taking on the role of Response Co-ordinator at the Enliven Regional Hub towards the end of last year.
Jana provides non-clinical advice but works closely with Enliven Response and Quality Co-ordinator, Yla de Palma, a registered nurse who manages high-risk calls and provides clinical advice. High-risk calls may include a client living with dementia who is not at home for their appointment, has a fall, or has medication issues.
“Our team helps support workers navigate the next best step if an intervention is needed and escalate issues if we are concerned about a client,” says Jana.
“This is my dream job. I’m really enjoying the role and the support I’ve received in stepping into it from Michelle [Enliven Northern Area Manager Michelle McDonald)], and the rest of the team has been amazing. I’ve learnt a lot. I’m learning new things every day, and everyone, including the management team, has supported me and made me feel really valued.
“There was an immediate connection with the support worker teams as soon as I started in the role. I’ve been a support worker, so I understand their reality. We’re like a family, and it’s been great to get to know more people in the regional support work teams that I look after.
Michelle says Response Co-ordinator roles are based on strong relationships, and Jana is a “ray of sunshine” in how well she has fitted into the team.
