Betty’s story

In her late 80s…

Betty often used to become unwell and had lost interest in golf, a game she used to enjoy.

A challenge

Betty had an Enliven support worker who helped her manage life on her own. When Marlene took on a six-week walking challenge, she encouraged Betty to give it a go too by counting her steps every day with the help of a pedometer. Betty was soon hooked.

A new lease on life

Betty recorded her steps carefully every day, and was very proud of her impressive results each week. She took up golf again as a great way to add to her steps. Now she frequently enjoys nine holes followed by lunch with a group of friends.

Betty is determined to stay active, having discovered for herself the benefits of exercise and getting out and about with others.

“If you don’t use it, you lose it. If I feel no good before I start exercising, when I finish I feel absolutely on top of the world.”
